Capricious is something that is unpredictable, Capricious at some point could mean unexplainable changes while at some other point capricious could mean impulsive but at this point in time capricious means African Cup of Nations.

Or how else do we describe a tournament that a Nigeria didn’t qualify for in 2012, won in 2013 and didn’t qualify for in 2015 and 2017 or what adjective do we use for a competition that Egypt won in 2006, 2008 and 2010, didn’t qualify for in 2012, 2013 and 2015 yet played in the finals of 2017? I will stop here not for the lack of examples but because this is not the emphasis of this article.

Rather the emphasis is on Cameroon, the reigning African champions, whose victory is another caprice, I mean at the beginning of the tournament even the book makers did not favour Cameroun, their win this past weekend did more than stun the continent. Marked down as no-hopers, even by themselves, after seven key players chose to put their club careers over their country, but listening to their captain – Bernard Moukandjo it’s not too hard to find the tonic for Lions, who said one of the things they did was they resolved before the kick-off to qualify from the group stage and after that they were determined to win every match they played taking it one match at a time.

Indeed, doing otherwise has been the bane of many teams, in the same competition Ghana was already talking of winning the cup after many years again just before their semi final match and never got past that hurdle, just like the Nigeria talked and prepped for France 98 Quarter finals against Brazil and lost the proceeding match to Denmark among other examples.

Don’t get it twisted – this article is not saying – don’t look at the big picture, or don’t have a long term goal or don’t look far rather what it’s saying is Have the big picture or the long term goal, break it down to short terms and focus on the immediate one with all diligence because its only when you have lived today well that you have a foundation to build on tomorrow.

On the flip side, when we live our today excellently building on it tomorrow becomes almost automatic, I mean the horse always comes before the cart. What do you have before you today? School, assignments, projects, that small job etc do it well today and succeeding tomorrow will be easier.

TAKE THEREFORE NO THOUGHT FOR THE MORROW: FOR THE MORROW SHALL TAKE THOUGHT FOR THE THINGS OF ITSELF. SUFFICIENT UNTO THE DAY IS THE EVIL THEREOF – MATTHEW 6:34
